Box Score The Aurora University Spartans hosted the visiting Pirates of Southwestern University on Friday March 27. The Spartans fell in a close contest losing 15-11.

Taking the field on the brisk March afternoon the Spartans struck quickly within the first two minutes.
Kenny Hughes tallied the goal being assisted from
Lexie Wright.
Several minutes later the visiting Pirates were able to find the back of the cage tying the score at 1-1. The Spartans and the Pirates continued to trade blows through much of the first half. AU took a two goal lead with an unassisted goal from
Lexie Wright and Hughes scored her second with an assist from
Rachel Cochran.
After a Southwestern goal,
Danielle Morgan scored on a free position attempt for a 4-2 AU lead. As Southwestern kept the Spartans close another AU goal with 9:31 left by
Chloe Madison assisted by Hughes gave the Spartans a 5-3 lead.
But Southwestern went on a three goal run to end the half leaving the Spartans trailing 6-5 going into halftime.

The second-half begane with two goals from the Pirates and with 26:32 to play, AU trailed 8-5. AU began to fight back with Hughes scoring two more goals with assists from madison and Wright and then was followed by a quick shot and goal from
Andrea Colford to tie the score at 8-8.Â

The Spartans and the Pirates then traded runs for the next eight minutes. A 2-0 Southwestern run was countered with three consecutive goals from Hughes with all three being assisted by Cochran. With 7:55 to play, AU led 11-10.
But the final run of the half was taken by the Pirates, a 5-0 run to end the game and a final score of 15-11.Â
With the loss, AU is now 2-4 overall. Next action for the Spartan women's lacrosse comes on Saturday, March 28 when they host Muskingum University. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. on Vago Field.
