Softball continues streak with sweep of MSOE

The Aurora University softball team trekked to Milwaukee and Milwaukee School of Engineering for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Spartans continued their strong play since starting the northern schedule, winning a pair of mercy rule contests 10-0 and 10-1.

Game One
Aurora 10 MSOE 0 (5 innings)
The Spartans scored in all five innings while starting pitcher Vanessa Hartzell allowed just two hits, one each in the second and third inning en route to her 11th win of the season. AU pounded out 14 hits in those five scoring innings, led by Lauren Huebner (two for two, two runs scored and one run batted in), Mandey Shrader (three for three, one run scored and one run batted in) and Larkin Langston (two for four with a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in).

Game Two
Aurora 10 MSOE 1 (5 innings)
The second game was almost identical to game one with the Spartans scoring in all five innings with 12 hits in the game. Starting pitcher Natalie earned the win, scattering six hits and allowing one run. Offensively, game two leaders included Huebner (two for three with a triple, two runs scored and one run batted in), Taylor Moore (two for three with a double and one run scored), Shrader (three for four with one run scored and one run batted in) and Langston (three for four with a triple, two runs batted in and two runs scored).

With the sweep, AU is now 19-3 overall and 12-0 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan softball team comes on Sunday, April 12, 2015 when they host Concordia University Wisconsin in a NACC doubleheader. Game one is set for 12:00 p.m. at the Stuart Sports Complex in Montgomery, Illinois.
