The Aurora University women's lacrosse team lost a non-conference contest at Dubuque University Monday afternoon 13-12 in a back and forth affair.
AU fell behind early by a 4-1 margin with
Chloe Madison picking up the lone goal in the first seven plus minutes. But the next three goals went the Spartans way with
Kenny Hughes scoring twice including on a man-up and Madison added her second of the day.
Rachel Cochran and Hughes had assists.
After Dubuque regained the lead at 5-4, AU scored three of the final four goals of the half to take a 7-6 lead into the intermission. Cochran scored once with Hughes adding two more tallies.
Cochran opened the second half scoring with an assist from
Andrea Colford but three unanswered Dubuque goals found the Spartans trailing 9-8 with 20 minutes to play. The teams then traded a pair of goals each with Hughes and Madison notching the goals.
Down one with 14 minutes to play, Hughes (Cochran assist) and Cochran (Madison assist) scored over the next four minutes to give the visiting Spartans a 12-11 lead.
Unfortunately for AU, the Cochran goal would be the final score of the game for the Spartans with Dubuque scoring twice in 48 seconds at 6:23 and 5:35 to grab a 13-12 lead against AU.
The final five plus minutes only saw one shot combined by the two teams as Dubuque held on to defeat AU 13-12.
Allee Samuel had 13 saves in the losing effort.
With the loss, AU is now 6-6 overall with a 3-1 MWLC mark. Next action for the Spartan women's lacrosse comes on Wednes
day, April 15 when they host Beloit College. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. on Vago Field.
