AU women gain hold of second in MWLC with 9-8 win over Beloit

The Aurora University women's lacrosse team hosted the Buccaneers of Beloit College on Wednesday afternoon in an important Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference match-up. Aurora sunk the Buccaneers 9-8.
 

As the game got started, the Spartans took the early 1-0, by Chloe Madison just 28:57 into play. The visiting Buccaneers responded with a goal several minutes later to tie the score 1-1. Madison, Kenny Hughes and Rachel Cochran each added to the Spartan score tally as both teams traded goals. The score was knotted at 4-4 with 14:16 remaining in the first half.
 

Madison scored her third of the game at 10:16 of the opening half to give AU a 5-4 advantage but with just over a minute remaining, Beloit would score. The Spartans and Buccaneers headed to halftime with the score tied 5-5. 

The Spartans came out of the locker room with a a goal by Hughes within the first minute that gave the Spartans the edge. The Spartans, however, lost the lead for the first time all day on two unanswered Buccaneer goals at 20:52 and 17:43.

With the Spartans trailing 7-6 Hughes began a 3-1 run for the Spartans to finish the game. With a score of 8-8, Hughes ended the Buccaneer's hopes with her fourth and final goal of the game despite 4:51 still on the game clock. Spartan Danielle Morgan added another tally in the Spartans run.

After the Spartans successfully ran out the clock, the final score rest 9-8 in favor of the Spartans. AU goalkeeper Allee Samuel stood tall recording four saves for the victory.
 

With the win, AU is now 7-6 overall and 4-1 in the MWLC and controls the race for second-place at this time. Next action for the Spartan women's lacrosse comes on Saturday, April 18 when they travel to Loras College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
