Spartans overcome two goal deficit to knock off Pioneers 3-2

The Aurora University women's soccer team needed to play come from behind early on in the contest with the University of Wisconsin-Platteville as the Pioneers scored two quick goals in the first-half. Aided by the scoring prowess of senior Nicci Bermudes, AU went into halftime tied 2-2 before holding on to score late for the 3-2 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
UW-Platteville was first on the scoreboard with an early goal from Yamilex Jaramillo (34:56). Late in the first half the Pioneers took a two goal lead with the second goal of the game from Jaramillo. (18:29)
Spartan Bermudes scored her sixth goal of the season to put the Spartans on the board (17:02).
Bermudes puts in her second goal of the day off of a corner late in the first-half (3:38).
Bermudes scores to make it a hat trick on the day late in the second-half (9:08).
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
UW-Platteville had two free kicks from just outside the box in the second-half (35 minutes and 18 minutes) that went off the cross bar and just wide that would have given them the lead.
AU extended their unbeaten streak to 23 games.
Bermudes has accounted for all eight of the Spartan goals in 2015.
 
FOR THE SPARTANS:
Bermudes collected the hat trick for her sixth, seventh and eighth goals of the year.
Sophomore Alicia Rotolo assisted on the second goal for AU.
The Spartans recorded 20 shots, 11 of which were on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin deRuiter had six saves.
 
FOR THE FOES:
Jaramillo scored both Pioneer goals.
The Pioneers recorded 19 shots, eight of which were on target.
Goalkeeper Amanda Taylor recorded eight saves.

Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on Saturday, September 12 when they travel to Hanover College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. (EST) in Hanover, Indiana.
