Win streak at four for AU women with win at Marian

A slow start did not hamper the Aurora University women's basketball team as they won their fourth straight game and fifth in six contests, 57-39 at Marian University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans and Sabres got off to a slow start in the opening period and with 3:41 to go, the game was tied 5-5.
Marian ran off a 6-0 run before a 3-0 Spartan run to end the period with an 11-8 score in Marian's favor.
The Sabres pushed the lead to seven at 15-8 quickly in the second period.
AU's defense took over though as AU only allowed two points in the final 8:30 of the second and went into halftime leading by one at 18-17.
The third period saw AU struggle from the field and with 4:30 to play in the third period, Marian led by 10, 32-22.
Fueled again by their defense, the Spartans ran off a 12-0 run to finish the third and led after three period 34-32. A three from Alyssa Brems just before the period buzzer gave the Spartans the lead.
AU led throughout the fourth period although Marian was within two (39-37) with 5:15 to go.
The Spartans finished the game on an 18-2 run which included a 12-0 run to finish the game.
Once again AU was solid from the free-throw line down the stretch going five-of-six today.
When the final horn sounded, AU won by 18, 57-39.
 
FOR THE SPARTANS
Bethany Dorrington recorded 23 points and nine rebounds.
Anna Roszkowski had 13 points and six rebounds.
Kelly Evers had 10 points and six rebounds.
 
FOR THE FOES
Nicole Paulus had 13 points.
Hunter Godfroy had 11 points and seven rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
Next action for the Spartan women's basketball team comes on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 when they host Alverno College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium. The first 100 AU fans in attendance will receive an AU blue glow in the dark bracelet.
