14th annual AU SAAC Project Linus blanket drive around the corner

On Thursday, March 3, 2016 members of the Aurora University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Spartan Athletic Training Student Organization (SATSO) will sponsor the 14th annual AU Project Linus campaign.

The two organizations welcome members of the Aurora University community to take part in the 90 minute blanket making drive from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium. Participants are welcome to make a single blanket or multiple blankets in the 90 minute time frame. The goal for the 2016 drive has been set at 75 blankets.

In the 2015 Project Linus event, a group of AU athletic teams, athletic training students, athletic department staff, the physical education department and general AU community members made fleece blankets, 64 total, in about 90 minutes of work that were donated to Project Linus with the eventual end destination of Loyola University Hospital.

The blankets made in this year's drive will be donated to Western Suburb Chapter of Linus for eventual distribution to those in need. Project Linus mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."

To reach the 75 blanket goal, fleece or monetary donations are welcome! If interested in making a donation (each blanket has an approximate $20 value) for the Project Linus event, contact Nicki Pieart (npieart@aurora.edu) or any member of SAAC or SATSO.
