HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans took control early, scoring five unanswered goals in the first to lead 5-0.
Jason Koziol scored the first two with
Trevor McNamara adding three.
- Wittenberg broke through on the scoreboard in the second but AU behind a pair of Koziol goals and one each from McNamara and
Max Matthai led 9-4 going into halftime.
- Wittenberg scored the first three goals in the third to pull within 9-7 of AU.
- AU's
Matt Smidlein got AU back on track with a goal but Wittenberg answered right away and with 8 minutes to play, AU led 10-8.
- The Spartans behind a goal from Koziol and two from
Bailey Smith finished the third period with a 13-8 lead.
- Wittenberg scored the first and last goal of the fourth but AU tallied three scores in between to win the contest with ease 16-10.
