The Aurora University Men's and Women's Track and Field representatives at the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships opened Day One in Waverly, Iowa at Wartburg College with a mix of performances.
Four individual Spartans and the women's 4x100 relay team competed on the day with senior
Kalmon Stokes advancing from the preliminary rounds in the 400 meter hurdles and will compete for individual All-American and NCAA Championship honors. Fellow senior
Talia Sheedlo competed in four of the seven events in the heptathlon and sits seventh heading into the final day.
Women's Track and Field
200 meter dash
Simpkins finished fifth in her heat and 15th overall with a time of 24.93.
Heptathlon
Sheedlo is seventh through four events with a score of 2765. She was second in the 100 meter hurdles (14.92 - 852 pts), tied for fifth in the high jump (1.57m - 501 pts), 18th in the shot put (8.54m - 434 pts) and seventh in the 200 meter (26.22 - 778 pts). She will compete in the final three events, long jump., javelin and 800 meter with a chance for an individual NCAA Championship and All-American honors.
Next action for the Spartan women at the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships comes on Friday, May 27, 2016. Spartans Sheedlo (Heptathlon - three events) will begin at 12:00 p.m. and she will run in the 100 meter hurdles at 4:30 p.m. while Simpkins (100 meter dash) will run at 5:30 p.m.
Men's Track and Field
400 meter hurdles
Stokes won his heat and is fourth overall with a time of 52.15. He will run in the 400 meter hurdle NCAA Finals on
Saturday, May 28 at 3:15 pm with a chance for an individual NCAA Championship and All-American honors.
200 meter dash
Terry Moore finished fifth in his heat and 16th overall with a time of 22.15.
