Spartan women's lacrosse to play for MWLC title

The Aurora University women's lacrosse team took care of business on the 2016 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament Semi-Final by defeating Augsburg College 22-16. AU will now play for the MWLC title on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • AU jumped out to a 3-0 lead quickly in the first-half with goals from Kenny Hughes and Lauren Whitfield (2).
  • After a pair of Augsburg goals, Hughes and Whitfield scored 53 seconds a part and AU led 5-2.
  • Whitfield scored her fourth of the game around five Augsburg goals. With 10:21 to play, AU trailed 7-6.
  • The Spartans, Hughes (2), Andrea Colford and Chloe Madison, tallied four goals over a three minute span and AU led 10-7.
  • Augsburg answered with three goals and with 25 seconds to play, the game was tied 10-10.
  • Spartan Rachel Cochran scored her first goal of the game with 12 seconds left and AU went into halftime leading 11-10.
  • AU dominated the first 20 minutes of the second-half, scoring six straight and eight of nine goals to take a 19-11 lead.
  • Augsburg fought late to get into the game but the Spartans held them off, winning 22-16.

FOR THE SPARTAN
Kenny Hughes had eight goals.
Lauren Whitfield had four goals and two assists.
Andrea Colford had four goals and one assist.
Chloe Madison had two goals and three assists.
Danielle Morgan had two goals and one assist.

Next action for the Spartan women's lacrosse team comes on Saturday May 7 when they travel to Concordia University Wisconsin for the 2016 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament Championship. AU is the No. 2 seed and will take on No. 1 CUW at 4:00 p.m. in Mequon, Wisconsin.
