HOW IT HAPPENED
The game opened up with a scoring onslaught. Just 1:10 into the game, Spartan
Brendan Logan found the back of the net with an assist from
Trevor Hoth.
Only 23 seconds later and before the AU goal was even announced the Vikings scored to tie the game.
The teams both traded scoring chances but it took 13 more minutes at 14:33 for the next tally to happen. Spartan
Tim Santopoalo was awarded the goal off a scrum in front of the Lawrence net.
Anthony Pnewski and
Conor Jonasson grabbed assists.
AU led 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
Lawrence came out in the second and scored twice in the first four minutes, one on the power play to take a 3-2 lead.
AU Head Coach
Jason Bloomingburg made a goalie change calling on
Max Kirkwood and the game then had both back up goalies in the game after a first period injury led to a Lawrence change.
Midway through the second and on the power play, Spartan
Liam Stirtzinger scored his first collegiate goal, tapping in a rebound from Pnewski and
Rihards Marenis. Both Pnewski and Marenis were credited assists.
As they had all game, Lawrence answered shortly after, just two minutes later the Vikings regained the lead at 4-3.
Early in the third the Vikings added another goal for the eventual 5-3 final score.
