Inclement weather greeted the 2017 AU Homecoming crowd and after a delay in starting the game against AU and Alma, the Spartans fell to Alma 27-19.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU and Alma College met on a soggy Vago field as both teams played through the rain that fell throughout the contest.
- In the 1
st quarter AU managed to battle the wet weather and drove 72 yards to the Alma College one yard line. On their 1
st play of the second quarter
Gavin Zimbelman capped of the drive with a one yard rush to put the Spartans up 6-0.
- Alma College responded with a touchdown of their own and AU trailed 7-6
- After an AU turnover the Spartan defense stepped up with a 57 yard pick-six by
Brendan Fulton to give the Spartans a 13-7 lead.
- With 7:05 remaining in the 2
nd quarter Alma College cut into the Spartan lead with a 20 yard field goal. AU led 13-10.
- As the rain began to come down again, AU took to the offense again with a 48 yard touchdown pass by
Gavin Zimbelman to
Sean Mullen. AU led Alma College 19-10 with 3:48 remaining in the first half.
- With 30 seconds remaining in the first half Alma College kicked a 26 yard field goal.
- AU led Alma College 19-13 at the end of the first half.
- In their first drive of the second half it appeared that AU added to their lead on a screen pass but a holding call called the touchdown back.
- An AU turnover led to an Alma College touchdown with 14:55 remaining in the game. AU trailed Alma College 20-19
- A late fourth quarter score by Alma College found AU trail 27-19
- A last drive effort for AU came up short and AU fell to Alma College by a score of 27-19
