HOW IT HAPPENED
- On the Spartans second possession of the game, three
Connor Olson rushes for 45 yards resulted in a 6-0 lead.
- Another poor CUW punt led to great AU starting field possession early in the second quarter. A long Olson run set up a 20-yard touchdown pass from
Gavin Zimbelman to
Sean Mullen and AU now led 12-0.
- The Spartan defense allowed CUW no room and again set up great starting field possession for the offense. This time Tyran Bailey ran for 55 yards on the drive and set up another Zimbelman to Mullen scoring strike and AU now led 19-0.
- AU kept rolling to start the third quarter, adding three more points on a
Zac Mirabelli field goal.
- CUW got on the board in the third but through three quarters, AU led 22-7.
- Quality field position came into play on the Spartans next scoring drive. Starting just shy of midfield, AU and
Tyran Bailey grounded out 32 yards with Zimbelman capping off the drive with his third touchdown pass to Mullen.
- CUW added a score and the AU defense set up another AU tally.
- Spartan
Max Basler stripped the Falcon quarterback for a sack and
Alex Blair recovered at the CUW 30 yard line.
- Three plays and 30 Bailey yards resulted in a touchdown for the freshman running back and AU now led 36-14.
