Brems and Spartans reign over Regents

The Aurora University women's basketball team defeated the visiting Regents of Rockford University 76-67 on Wednesday night behind a record setting three-point performance from Spartan sophomore Alyssa Brems. Brems scored 34 points with nine three-point field goals (14 attempts).

HOW IT HAPPENED
After an opening three from Alyssa Brems gave the Spartans a 3-0 lead, Rockford ran off a 10-0 run to lead 10-3 with 6:06 to play in the first quarter.
A 16-1 Spartan run followed aided by four three-pointers, three from Brems and one from Sami Hultine.
When Adriana Ramirez made a jumper to tie the game 11-11 with 4:02 to play, the Spartans would never trail again in the game.
Brems made her fifth three of the first quarter with just over two minutes to play as AU led by eight, 22-14.
The Spartans led 22-18 at the quarter break.
AU built the lead back up to eight only to see Rockford storm back and cut the game down to one (26-25 AU) with 4:51 to play in the opening half.
The teams headed into halftime with AU leading 36-32.
With 4:27 to go in the third quarter, Alyssa Brems knocked down her eighth three of the game, setting a new AU single game record. She would go on to hit one more.
When Spartan Ally Van Bogaert hit a three with 1:56 on the clock, AU had the games largest lead of 10 (52-42).
Meija Rabi scored the last six points of the quarter for the Spartans who led 56-46 after three quarters.
AU never let Rockford get any closer than a two possession game in the fourth quarter and went on to win 76-67 as they knocked down 7-of-10 free throws in the final minute of play to seal the game.
 
BEYOND THE BOX
Spartan Alyssa Brems set a new AU women's record for three-point field goals made in a game with nine. She tied the previous record with seven in the first-half.
AU had 21 points off the bench to six for Rockford.
The Spartans never trailed after the 4:01 mark of the first quarter.

FOR THE SPARTANS
Alyssa Brems had 34 points on 9-of-14 from three-point range, five rebounds and three steals.
Meija Rabi had 10 points and five rebounds.
Sami Hultine had 10 points and four assists.
Ally Van Bogaert had nine points and nine rebounds.
Allie Reichert had eight rebounds, six assists and five points.

Next action for the Spartan women's basketball team comes on Saturday, February 18 when they host Edgewood College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. on Lancaster Court in Thornton Gymnasium. During pregame, AU will recognize the graduating senior class of 2017.
