Spartans wallop Red Men on Vago

The Aurora University men's lacrosse team hosted long time rival Carthage College on Saturday afternoon and after a low scoring first-half, the Spartans ran roughshot on the Red Men, winning 16-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
AU opened up the games scoring at 10:48 with Joey Lucchesi scoring unassisted.
Jason Koziol added the only other tally of the first quarter with 38 seconds left and AU led 2-0.
The Spartans added to their lead with goals from Ben Arends (Koziol assist) and Koziol (Matt Sammarco assist) early in the second.
Carthage scored two goals to cut the AU lead to 4-2 midway through the second.
Just before the half ended, Spartan Bailey Smith scored with an assist from Joe Ebel.
AU led 5-2 heading into halftime.
AU and Corey Segall were 9-of-9 in face-offs in the first-half.
In the third quarter, Lucchesi got the scoring starter with an assist from Ebel at 9:11.
After another face-off win from Segall, Sam Hiss picked up the ground ball as the LSM and scored just 10 seconds later and AU led 7-2.
The Spartans then went on a man-up and Lucchesi scored his third of the game with an assist from McNamara and AU led 8-2.
Carthage scored to end the AU run but the Spartans were not done. AU would score three more times in the final 3:59, two from Koziol and one from McNamara. McNamara's goal came with 9 seconds to go in the third.
At the end of three quarters, AU led 11-3.
The onslaught continued in the fourth as the Spartans built a 15-3 lead behind goals from McNamara, Arends, Lucchesi and Tanner Lerdahl.
Following a late Carthage goal, Spartan Michael Goedderz wrapped up the scoring with a tally.
When the final horn sounded, AU was victorious 16-4.

FOR THE SPARTANS
Corey Segall made it rain from the dot, going 19-of-20 in face-offs.
Tyler Lombardi earned the win in goal with six saves.
Jason Koziol had three goals and three assists.
Joey Lucchesi had a game-high four goals.
Trevor McNamara had three goals and two assists.
