HOW IT HAPPENED
AU jumped out to a 1-0 lead 3:49 into the game on a
Lauren Whitfield goal.
A free position goal from
Kendall Urban gave the Spartans a 2-0 with 12:54 left in the first-half.
Carthage called a timeout and responded with six straight goals to lead 6-2 with 6:33 to play.
With 3:28 left in the opening half, Spartan
Andrea Colford cut the deficit in half on her goal and a
Kenny Hughes assist.
Carthage scored the first two goals of the second half to lead 8-3.
AU stormed back into the game led by a goal from
Andrea Colford at 17:09.
Kenny Hughes then added a pair of goals and with 11 minutes to play, AU trailed 8-6.
Carthage added two goals to push the lead against AU to 10-6.
With just over four minutes to play,
Kenny Hughes scored her third of the game on a fast break and AU trailed 10-7.
Carthage added a late tally in the final minute as the Spartans fell 11-7.
