The Aurora University Spartan baseball team went 1-1 on the opening day of the 2017 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament as they would defeat Milwaukee School of Engineering 8-0 and then fell in the second game of the day 11-6 to host Concordia University Wisconsin.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS
Jacob Stockman hurled a complete game three hit shutout at the Raiders, throwing just 73 pitches.
Cody Gregory was three for four with one run scored.
Cole Davis was two for four with three runs batted in.
Jeff Mayes was one for four with a double, three runs scored and two runs batted in.
Nick Turner was one for four with three runs scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spartan pitcher Jacob Stockman was workman like in his effort, limiting MSOE to just three hits over nine shutout innings for the win. He needed just 73 pitches to get the win.
- A pair of errors in the third got the AU offense started with Cole Davis driving in Nick Turner and Jeff Mayes with the runs.
- The Spartans added to their lead in the fourth, scoring four times on four hits including a two run double from Mayes.
- AU again pushed the Raiders in the fifth, taking advantage of two more errors to score two more runs and led 8-0.
- Both teams left a pair stranded in the sixth but that was the end of the offense as AU coasted to the 8-0 win behind the dominating performance by Stockman.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS
- Cole Davis was four for five with a double, one run scored and one run batted in.
- Michael Fidler was one for three with a home run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans saw CUW jump out to an early lead against starter Jeff Woods. AU trailed 4-0 after one inning.
- CUW added runs in the first five innings and led AU 10-0 going to the fifth.
- An error by CUW got the AU fifth started and the offense sparked from there. Three singles and a walk allowed AU to score three runs.
- Trailing 11-3, the Spartans got alead off home run from Fidler in the sixth and later in the inning Mike Cherven scored on a single from Nick Turner as the Spartans cut the deficit to 11-5.
- Singles from Davis, Adam Lipscomb and Cherven in the seventh plated another run and AU was chipping away, now down 11-6.
- AU threatened in the ninth, having two on with one out but could not score as they fell 11-6.
