Men's Lacrosse - MLC Tournament Preview

The Aurora University men's lacrosse team will enter the Midwest Conference Lacrosse Conference tournament for the seventh straight season. The Spartans finished the 2017 regular season with a 16-2 overall record and a 7-1 MLC record, while winning the programs fifth consecutive MLC title. The Spartans will host Beloit College on Wednesday, May 3 at 4:30 p.m.

Match-up -
  • -The Spartans will take on Beloit College in the opening round of the conference tournament. AU defeated Beloit in the regular season 14-5.

All-Time MLC Championship History –
  • - AU has won the last four MLC Tournaments, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016
  • - The Spartans defeated Concordia University Wisconsin in 2016, 13-11 to win their 3rd MLC Tournament
  • - Only two schools have won the MLC Tournament in the five previous tournaments, Adrian College (2011, 2012) and AU.
  • - The top three teams in the 2016 field are repeat guests with Milwaukee School of Engineering making their first ever appearance.

About the Spartans –
  • - AU is 9-2 all-time in the MLC tournament.
  • - The Spartans are not the top seed in the MLC tournament for the first time since the 2012 season.
  • - Junior Trevor McNamara leads the Spartans with 40 goals and 37 assists.
  • - Senior Jason Koziol comes in the tournament with 50 goals and 22 assists.
  • - Senior Bailey Smith comes in the tournament with 54 goals and 11 assists.
  • - Junior Corey Segall has been a dominate force in the face off circle going 200-266 with 126 ground balls.
  • - Sophomore Bryce Wallgard has forced 23 turnovers and 27 ground balls.
  • - In the net for the Spartans, freshman Tyler Lombardi went 16-2 in the regular season with 120 saves.

About MLC Opponents –
  • - AU, Concordia Wisconsin and Beloit College shared the 2017 Midwest Lacrosse Conference Championship in the regular season with 7-1 records.
  • - Concordia University Wisconsin comes in as the top seed in the MLC with an overall record of 12-5 and 7-1 MLC. CUW is 2-4 all-time in the MLC tournament.
  • - The third seed Beloit College comes in with a 10-5 overall record and 7-1 in the MLC. BU is 0-2 all-time in the MLC tournament.
  • - Rounding up the tournament, fourth seed Milwaukee School of Engineering has an 8-7 overall record and was 5-3 in the MLC. MSOE is making their first MLC tournament appearance.

Up Next for the Spartans –
  • - With a victory over Beloit, the Spartans would play in the 2017 MLC Tournament Championship on Saturday, May 6.
  • - If AU and CUW win, the game would be at 11:00 a.m. in Mequon, Wisconsin.
  • - If AU and MSOE win, AU would host the MLC final at 1:00 p.m.
