Late goal lifts Spartans past Thunder

The Aurora University women's hockey team took on Trine University in the final game of the two game series of NCHA action and AU used a late third period goal to make the travel home a joyous one as the Spartans won 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Unlike the first period last night between the teams holding all the scoring, thi afternoon saw a 0-0 first period.
- 34 seconds into the second period, AU broke the scoreless tie. Marissa Dunbar scored with assists to Martel and Matson.
- The AU lead last one minute though as Trine tied the game 1:36 into the second.
- A few minutes later the goal lamp lit again as the Spartans took a 2-1 lead. Anna Zak scored this time with an assist to Bri Wood.
- AU would carry the 2-1 advantage into the second intermission.
- Early in the third Trine was able to get the puck past goalie Becca Binder and tie the game.
- The game would remain a 2-2 affair as the game approached the final three minutes.
- That is when the Spartans struck. With 3:20 to play, Nicole McKernan scored the game-winning goal. She was assisted by Lexie Martinez and Marissa Dunbar.
