Spartans clip Cougars in road NACC contest

An important road contest faced the Aurora University Spartan women's basketball team on Tuesday night as the Spartans traveled to Concordia University Chicago with both teams eyeing NACC Tournament placing. The Spartans led early and held on late to defeat the Cougars 82-73.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With 3:57 to go in the opening quarter the Spartans led 13-11.
- In the final minutes of the first, the Spartans made a huge run to take control of the contest. A 16-3 run, fueled by a pair of three's from Alyssa Brems and four points each from Adriana Ramirez and Bri Hall.
- AU led 29-14 after the first quarter.
- A jumper from Julie Galauner early in the second gave the Spartans a 21-point lead (38-17), the largest of the game.
- The Spartans led heading to halftime by 16, 44-28.
- In the third, AU withstood a 10-0 CUC run and still led by six, 46-40 with 5:54 to go in the third.
- CUC was able to cut the lead by AU down to four several times but a jumper by Meija Rabi before the third quarter ended gave the Spartans a 59-52 lead through three quarters.
- After building the lead to 11, 63-52 the Spartans again had to endure a furious Cougar comeback. Midway through the fourth, AU led by three, 65-62.
- The Spartans answered back quickly with a 10-3 run and led comfortably once again by 10, 75-65.
- AU never saw their lead get lower than eight in the final 3:10 of the game and went on to win 82-73.

FOR THE SPARTANS
- Adriana Ramirez had a double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds
- Bri Hall had 17 points and eight rebounds off the AU bench
- Julie Galauner had 16 points and five assists.
- Alyssa Brems had 15 points
- Meija Rabi had 12 points and nine rebounds
