HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 25
th minute the Spartans took the lead off of a corner kick from
Jessica Ortiz that led to a Marian own-goal. AU led 1-0 with 20:34 remaining in the first half. A Marian defender headed the ball into the Sabre net.
- After controlling the ball for most of the half and taking multiple shots on goal the Spartans were unable to add to their lead but the momentum into the half leading Marian 1-0.
- In the 49
th minute a Marian penalty in the box gave
Jessica Ortiz a penalty kick opportunity where she put the biscuit in the basket and extended the AU lead 2-0.
-In the final minute of the match Marian threatened to score on a breakaway opportunity but a sprawling save from
Taylor Joiner preserved the Spartan shutout and the AU win.
-AU defeated Marian by a score of 2-0.
