AU men put scare into top ranked Bulldogs

The Aurora University men's hockey team was tied early in the third period with the top ranked Bulldogs of Adrian College on Saturday afternoon at Fox Valley Ice Arena. The Spartans though came up just short as they fell to Adrian 7-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 3:33 into the game, AU took a 1-0 lead with a Liam Stirtzinger tally, he was assisted by Ashton Amaya and Brendan Logan
- After Adrian tied the game on the power play, AU struck again.
- Senior Ian Sweeney lit the lamp at 9:42 on a Drew Doyon assist and AU led 2-1.
- The game went to intermission tied 2-2.
- Trailing 402 late in the second, Doyon scored to pull AU within one. Rihards Marenis assisted on the goal.
- Right out of the second intermission, AU tied the game up. Marenis scored an unassisted tally and the game was knotted up 4-4.
- Midway through the third Adrian regained the lead.
- Down 5-4, AU pulled goalie Josh Boyko and would allow a pair in the final 1:42, an empty net goal and one more tally after that for the eventual 7-4 final score.
