Spartans sweep doubleheader lacrosse day

The Aurora University Spartan men's lacrosse team hosted a doubleheader day of lacrosse action on Sunday, April 15 at Spartan Athletic Park. AU used a nine goal first quarter to defeat Whittier College in game one 15-7 before coming from behind in game two to defeat Milwaukee School of Engineering 11-7.

GAME ONE -
HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Spartans jumped out to a commanding 9-0 lead in the first quarter.
- Joey Lucchesi scored five times in the first quarter and the Spartans tallied three man-up goals.
- After three goalie changes for Whittier, the Spartans slowed down the offensive pace in the second quarter but led 11-3 going to halftime.
- In the third quarter the Spartans scored four unanswered tallies to lead 15-3. JK Torres had a pair with Trevor McNamara and Joe Brandolino scoring.
- Whittier scored four times in the fourth quarter but the game was well in hand and the Spartans won 15-7.
STAT LEADERS
- Joey Lucchesi had five goals and one assist.
- JK Torres had three goals and three assists.
- Gavin Hardersen had one goal and two assists.
- Tyler Lombardi had 12 saves for the win.
- Corey Segall was 20-of-22 in face-offs and collected 13 ground balls.

GAME TWO -
HOT IT HAPPENED

- AU grabbed a 1-0 lead 1:15 into the opening quarter with Nick Glaser scoring on a JK Torres assist,
- Later in the first, Torres scored unassisted to tie the game 2-2.
- AU would trail 3-2 after one quarter.
- Midway through the second quarter and down 4-2, Spartan Joey Lucchesi scored on an assist from Torres.
- The teams went into halftime with AU trailing MSOE 4-3.
- 2:25 into the third quarter, Torres scored to tie the game at 4-4. The goal began a 4-0 AU run.
- At the end of the Spartan scoring run by Torres (two), Glaser and Ben Arends, AU led 7-4.
- After three quarters, AU led 7-6.
- Early in the fourth, the Spartans expanded their lead to 10-6 with goals from Gavin Hardersen, Trevor McNamara and Joe Ebel.
- Both teams scored once in the fourth quarter as the Spartans were victorious 11-7.
STAT LEADERS
- JK Torres had three goals and two assists.
- Nick Glaser had two goals and one assist.
- Tyler Lombardi had 12 saves for his 14th win of the year.
- Corey Segall was 17-of-21 in face-offs.
