Spartan bats roll in sweep of Raiders

The Aurora University Spartan softball team swept a doubleheader with Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday afternoon, winning 6-1 and 9-5.

GAME ONE - HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans jumped out quickly on offense, scoring five times in the first inning thanks to a grand slam from Ashley Pittman.
- AU scored another run in the second but left the bases loaded with a chance for more.
- The Spartans again loaded the bases in the third but this time came up empty but still led 6-0.
- Spartan starter Steph Renner saw Raiders reach each inning but she held firm and had a shutout going through four innings.
- MSOE scored a run in the fifth with a pair of extra base hits.
- AU went on to win the game 6-1.

GAME TWO - HOT IT HAPPENED
- AU fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of game two.
- The Spartan bats responded immediately in the bottom of the first. With one out, Josie Bachtel homered and started a string of four straight hits and five in the inning. AU scored three runs and left the bases loaded when the final out was made.
- AU added runs in the second and third to lead 5-2.
- In the fifth MSOE tied the game with a key error leading to two of the three runs.
- With the game tied 5-5, AU's offense took advantage of a two-out error to score four times with a bases clearing double from Ashley Pittman being the big hit of the inning.
- AU would go on to win 9-5 and secure the day sweep.
