Spartan split at Marian has NACC implications

The Aurora University Spartan softball team split a doubleheader at Marian University, winning 4-1 in extra innings before losing 6-4 in game two. AU controls their own destiny heading into the regular season finale tomorrow at Lakeland. With two wins AU would share a conference championship.

GAME ONE - HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU fell behind in the first as Marian manufactured a run.
- A lead-off single by Brianna Lewis in the sixth ended up producing the Spartans first run as she scored later in the inning.
- The game would remain tied 1-1 heading to extra innings.
- In the top of the eighth the Spartans took command of the game. Josie Bachtell and Sam Owens doubled to give AU a 2-1 lead. Two batters later Abbey Rosenow hit a two-run home run and AU led 4-1.
- Steph Renner put down the Sabres in the bottom of the inning and the Spartans won 4-1.

GAME TWO - HOT IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans scored in three of the first four innings.
- In the first, Nina Tholl doubled and her pinch runner, Kaylee Underwood scored on a Sam Owens single.
- In the second, Abbey Rosenow singled and her pinch runner, Jessica DeVries scored on a wild pitch to give AU a 2-0 lead.
- Walks, four of them, led to two AU runs in the fourth.
- Marian would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth as they got five hits.
- The game remained tied 4-4 until the seventh. With two outs, Marian got a two-run walk-off home run.
