Spartans advance to MLC Tournament Final with defeat of Beloit

The Aurora University men's lacrosse team coasted to a 20-2 victory in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference Tournament semi-final over Beloit College Wednesday afternoon Spartan Athletic Park. The game was delayed at the start due to lightning and was then called early due to the return of mother nature.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless nearly opening five minutes of action, AU scored three times in 58 seconds to grab a 3-0 lead. Tanner Lerdahl, Trevor McNamara and Joey Lucchesi all scored one goal.
- Lerdahl and McNamara scored and assist on each others goal as AU led 5-0 with 5:46 to play in the first.
- AU took a 6-1 lead after one quarter with JK Torres getting in on the scoring action
- Lucchesi and Lerdahl scored in the second as AU held an 8-2 lead going to halftime.
- The second-half was all AU as the defensive swarmed and would not allow Beloit much room to make passes.
- The offense exploded for 10 third quarter goals, five coming in the final 3:22 of the session.
- Heading to the fourth, AU led 18-2.
- McNamara and Lucchesi added fourth quarter tallies before lightning returned to Spartan Athletic Park, forcing action to be called with AU leading and winning 20-2.

BEYOND THE BOX
- The Spartans will play in their seventh consecutive MLC Tournament Championship game.
- AU is now 13-2 all-time in the MLC tournament.
- AU will compete for their sixth consecutive MLC Tournament Championship.

FOR THE SPARTANS
- The AU face-off specialists of Corey Segall and Dominican Diaz went 21-of-25 from the X.
- AU out-scored Beloit 12-0 in the weather shortened second-half.
- Tanner Lerdahl had six goals and three assists.
- Trevor McNamara had five goals and three assists.
- Joey Lucchesi had five goals and two assists.
- Tyler Lombardi made four saves behind his swarming Spartan defense.
