The Aurora University men's hockey team scored three first period goals before going on to defeat Concordia University Wisconsin 5-1 on Friday afternoon at the Fox Valley Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartan offense was firing on all cylinders with three goals in the first period.Â

Jack Jaunich opened the scoring with a goal 5:35 into the first period.Â
- Wyatt Matthews extended the Spartan lead to 2-0 with assists from
Danny O'Donnell and
Larry Jungwirth.Â
- The Spartans were short-handed on four different occasions in the period but the penalty kill unit did not allow a goal.
- The Spartans tallied their third goal of the period with another score from Jaunich with just over two minutes to play in the period.Â

Josh Boyko recorded 12 saves in the first period
- Less than a minute into the second, CUW struck on the power play and AU led 3-1.
- But the Spartans responded 40 seconds later as a flying
Grant Bondy lit the lamp and AU led 4-1.
Drew Doyon and
Liam Stirtzinger assisted on the play.
- AU would carry the 4-1 lead into the second intermission.
- The Spartans controlled the third period and added a power play goal with 3:07 left in the game.
Connor Chilton found the puck on his stick at the Falcon doorstep and he buried the puck.
Adam Keyes and
Larry Jungwirth had assists.
- AU would go on to win 5-1.
