Spartans lose series opener with Adrian 4-2

The Aurora University men's hockey team played well but 40 seconds were enough to do them in as they fell to Adrian College 4-2 on Saturday night at Fox Valley Ice Arena

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans trailed 2:57 into the game with the visitors getting on the scoreboard first.
- AU was able to tie the game 1-1 a short time later while on the power play.
- Connor Chilton scored the power play goal at 7:39 of the first with assists from Adam Keyes and Larry Jungwirth.
- Adrian would manage to score and lead 2-1 after the first period.
- The game remained 2-1 over midway through the second when Adrian scored a pair of goals 40 seconds a part. The second coming on a power play after a bench penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.
- AU trailed 4-1 after two periods.
- 5:43 into the third, the Spartans showed they would not lay down quietly as Liam Stirtzinger scored on an assist from Shawn O'Malley.
- The Spartans continued to push in the third but could not manage to get any closer on the scoreboard.
- AU fell by a 4-2 final score.
