The Aurora University Spartan women's basketball team defeated Alverno College 85-50 on Saturday afternoon on Lancaster Court in Thornton Gymnasium. After a slow start, the Spartans put the foot on the accelerator to defeat the Inferno handily.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans got off to an 8-0 start to begin the game with five points coming from
Julie Galauner. This included a deep three just before the shot clock expired.
- After Alverno pulled within four the Spartans regained momentum after a three point splash from
Alyssa Brems. AU led 17-9 with 2:32 remaining in the first quarter.
- An Inferno three as time expired in the first quarter brought the AU lead to 17-16.
- The second quarter saw AU lose the lead for the first time but responded to tie the game at 20-20 with 9:06 remaining in the first half. This sparked a 9-0 Spartan run that found AU ahead 27-20 with 7:19 remaining in the first half.
- The game tightened up with an Inferno 8-2 run. AU led 29-28 remaining in the second quarter.
- AU responded quickly with four points from
Julie Galauner and
Meija Rabi. This led to AU finishing the first half on a 13-1 run to go up 42-29 at the end of the first half. This included five Points from
Bailie Edwards who struck from three point range and followed up with a midrange jumper shortly after.
- The second half started off with slow play for the first couple minutes of the third quarter. This was until AU started a 9-0 run with
Rachel Baumgartner navigating through the Inferno for an easy layup. AU led 51-32 with 5:36 remaining in the third quarter.
- AU continued their dominance to the end of the third quarter. AU led Alverno 64-39.
- Early in the fourth quarter a three point bucket from
Alyssa Brems put The Spartans up 30. AU led 71-41 with 8:04 remaining in the game.
- Late in the game
Cameryn Renchen pulled up from three and Hannah Seils followed up with a layup to give AU their largest lead of the game at 38. AU led 85-47 with 58 seconds remaining in the game.
