Offense explosion sends Spartans to sweep Edgewood

The Aurora University softball team used a big day at the plate to win two NACC contests at Edgewood College on a chilly Sunday afternoon, winning both games in five innings, 11-0 and 13-0.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME ONE
- The Spartans hit two doubles, including a two-run double from Josie Bachtell while also taking advantage of three Edgewood errors in the first inning to score eight runs.
- In the fourth, Elaine Walker walked and scored on a second double of the day from Bachtell.
- The Spartans put the game out of reach with two more runs in the fifth, Walker hit her second double of the day to drive in a run.
- AU pitcher Stephanie Renner allowed two hits in the shutout win.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME TWO
- AU grabbed an early lead again with a three-run home run in the first inning from Megan Schwartz giving the Spartans a 3-0 lead.
- In the second, AU took advantage of two Edgewood errors and Elaine Walker singled to drive in a run.
- The Spartans blew the game wide open in the third. AU five singles and Edfgewood had four errors that allowed the Spartans to score six runs and lead 10-0.
- In the fifth, AU had their inning extended thanks to an Edgewood error. A Nina Tholl double drove in one run and then an Eagle error allowed two more Spartan runs to score.
- AU led 13-0 after 4-1/2 innings.
- Spartans Hannah Tomasko and Brittney Spiesz combined on a two-hit shutout.

Next action for the Spartan softball team comes on Sunday, March 31 when they travel to Edgewood College in a NACC doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 p.m. in Madison, Wisconsin.
