- AU fell behind in the first inning on a single to right field from the Cardinals.
- The Spartans would respond immediately in the top of the second inning when Paul Dobravec led off the inning with a single and moved to third later on from a double from Jeff Mayes. Dobravec would score on a ground ball to first base from Dylan White.
- AU would take the 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning with a little two-out rally. Three straight singles from Jett Wedekind, AJ Gill and Paul Dobravec would plate the second run for the Spartans.
- Malmberg was chased from the game in the bottom of the fourth inning leaving two runners on base for reliever Drew Marovich. A grand slam two batters later would put the Spartans behind 5-2.
- The score remained unchanged for the remainder of the game as pitching held both offenses down and AU fell to North Central 5-2
