A record setting night from senior running back
Tyran Bailey helped vault the Aurora University Spartan football team to a 49-7 dominating effort over the visiting Eureka College Red Devils. The game was also the first night football game ever played on the AU campus.

RECORD SETTING PERFORMANCES
- With 5:27 left in the third quarter,
Tyran Bailey made his 17th carry of the game. The 19 yard scamper found him in the end zone for the second time on the night and also gave him 3,703 yards for his career. That carry and yardage helped him become the all-time leading rusher in AU football history, surpassing Ron Griffin who had 3,691 from 1987-1990.
- The game, played under the lights at Spartan Athletic Park also marked the first ever home night game for the Spartan football program.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans scored touchdowns on seven of their first nine possessions of the game.
- AU took the opening kickoff and after a 32-yard return from
Cameron Moore, the offense marched 66 yards in four plays and 1:01 to score.
- Zimbelman hit a wide open
James Mautino on a 34 yard strike and after a missed PAT, AU led 6-0.
- The defense forced a Eureka punt and Mautino had a 55-yard return to the EC 30.
- Two plays later, Zimbelman hit Moore from 27-yards out and AU led 12-0.
- The next AU possession wasn't much different with the drive taking six plays in 2:21.
- Zimbelman connected on his third score of the night, this time 17 yards to
Brock Harner. A two-point conversion run from
Tyran Bailey gave AU a 20-0 lead.
- AU led 20-0 after the first quarter.
- The defense made a goal line stand at the end of the quarter to keep the 20-0 lead.
- AU was forced to punt but on their next possession, the offense got back in sync. Six plays and 70 yards in 1:31 saw Zimbelman hit
Colton Jewell. AU led 26-0.
- The following kickoff was signalled for a fair catch but the Eureka returners let the ball bounce and stop at the one yard line where they jumped on the ball.
- The second play, Spartan
Jared Pratt stuffed the rush attempt in the end zone for a safety and AU led 28-0.
- AU managed to get the ball back on offense with 35 seconds left in the game at their own 31. Zimbelman marched the group 69 yards in four plays and just 30 seconds. His feet gaining the big play with 23 yards out past midfield. He later connected from 22 yards with Jewell and AU led 35-0 going to halftime.
- The defense forced a three and out and a 13 yard punt gave AU the ball at the Eureka 38 to start their first drive of the second-half.
- Five
Tyran Bailey rushes followed for 38 yards and a touchdown as AU now led 42-0.
- After another three and out, Bailey and the AU ground game went back to work. Needing 60 yards to become the all-time leading rusher, Bailey broke off a 40 yard rush on a 2nd and 20. After gains of nine and three, he needed 8 yards for the record.
- The fifth carry of the drive, saw Bailey go 19 yards into the end zone for his second score of the night and the AU rushing record.
- AU led 49-0 after three quarters.
- The fourth quarter saw the Spartans ground out the clock and Eureka score to break up the shutout attempt.
- The Spartans won 49-7.
