Spartans sweep weekend series at Arcadia

The Aurora University men's hockey team swept the season opening weekend at Arcadia University winning game two 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.

RECORDS: Aurora University 2-0 overall; Arcadia University 0-2 overall 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU and Daniel Menges got on the scoreboard early, 3:14 into the first period.
- Just 1:02 later, Arcadia scored to tie the game. The goal was the first ever for the new Arcadia program.
- The game remained 1-1 into the first intermission.
- As the game approached 10 minutes to go in the second period, the score was still 1-1.
- On the power play, AU allowed a short handed tally and trailed 2-1 with 9:55 left in the second.
- 1:15 later and on the penalty kill, the Spartans struck with a short handed tally. Shawn O'Malley collected the goal with a Larry Jungwirth assist.
- With 1:05 left in the second, AU took a 3-2 lead. Brayden Sampson scored with helpers from Roberts Baranovskis and Nate Keeley.
- Early in the third period, Arcadia tied the game up at 3-3.
- The game was tied approaching eight minutes to play when the Spartans took their final lead of the game.
- Baranovskis scored with assists from Menges and Keeley.
- Menges added a power play tally at 3:00 left in the period with Jack Jaunich and Andrew Lane assisting.
- Larry Jungwirth added a goal with 5 seconds left to seal up the 6-3 victory.
