Spartans quiet Thunder in return to win column

The Aurora University men's hockey team got back in the winning column with an offensive explosion in a chippy 7-4 victory over the visiting Thunder of Trine University.

- With his goal at 4:56 of the second period, Spartan senior Riley Doyon moved into first place in the AU all-time goals scored. 

How it happened
- AU got an unassisted goal from Dylan Rauh 3:25 into the game. The goal sent the teddy bears from the crowd onto the Fox Valley ice.
- The Spartans added to their lead at 13:25 with Larry Jungwirth scoring off an assist from LA Grissom.
- On their second power play of the first period, the Spartans struck. LA Grissom sent a blast from the point that was redirected in front of the net by Matt Weber and into the back of the net. Andrew Lane picked up an assist as well on the play.
- AU led 3-0 going to intermission.
- The second period was not much different as Trine made a goalie change and AU scored twice in the first 4:56 to chase the second Thunder goalie and welcome a third.
- Weber scored his second goal of the night at 1:31 and Doyon scored a power play tally at 4:56.
- Trine broke the shutout attempt at 6:55 of the second.
- AU minutes later pushed the lead back to five at 6-1. Nate Keeley scored with assists from Gio Procopio and Jungwirth.
- The Spartans led 6-1 going to the second intermission, which was delayed due to a skirmish after the buzzer sounded.
- Trine scored three goals in a three minute span of the third period to put pressure back on the Spartans.
- With 7:36 to play, AU led 6-4.
- Dylan Rauh put the game to bed at 13:17 of the third with his second goal of the game. 
- Shortly after the Rauh goal, Matt Weber had a penalty shot but was stopped by the Thunder tender.
- AU held on to win 7-4 with Josh Boyko making 47 saves.
