HOW IT HAPPENED
- Midway through the first period Trine took the lead on a goal by Michelle Byker.
- With 6 minutes to go in the period, the Spartans were able to hold tough to shut down a Trine power play.
- The Spartans scored an equalizing goal late in the second period.
Lexie Martinez scored on an assist by
Ava Eid and
Olivia Matson.
- The second period ended with the score knotted 1-1.
- Early in the third period Trine scored a goal on a power play to go up 2-1.
- Aurora fought back with a Taylor Simms goal that tied the game at 2-2 with 7 minutes left to play.
- The score remained 2-2 for the rest of regulation.
- For the first time under the new NCHA rules, the Spartans headed to a 3 on 3 five minute overtime session.
- Early in overtime, Trine scored a sudden death game-winning goal to end the game with a final score of 3-2.
