The Aurora University women's hockey team got a hat trick from freshman forward Darci Matson and opened the new year with a 5-0 shutout at Northland College Friday night.

- Darci Matson got AU on the board late in the first period. She was assisted by Mak Cook and Madison Gasper. 
- AU led 1-0 going into the first intermission.
- The Spartans came out in the second period flying around and controlling the action.
- 17 seconds into the second period, Stephanie Schmunk scored on assists from Darci Matson and Peyton Elliott to give AU a 2-0 lead.
- Just over six minutes later, Darci Matson scored her second tally of the night. She was assisted by Olivia Matson and Ava Eid.
- Darci Matson scored the hat trick goal with 53.4 seconds left in the second with an assist by Ava Eid.
- The Spartans would take a 4-0 lead going into the second intermission.   
- Midway through the third period, Olivia Matson joined in on the scoring action. She was assisted by Marisa Trevino and Darci Matson.
- The Spartans out-shot the Lumberjills 44-18 and would go on to complete the 5-0 shutout.


- Darci Matson had a point on each of the Spartans five goals with three goals and two assists.
- Olivia Matson had three points with a goal and two assists.
- The Matson sisters finished the night with eight points, four goals and four assists.
- Chiara Pfosi picked up her fifth shutout of the 2021-2022 season.
