Spartans pound the rock in victory over Eagles

The Aurora University Spartan football team turned to the ground game in the second-half at Benedictine University on Saturday afternoon in Lisle, Illinois. The Spartans rallied from a 13-6 deficit to defeat the Eagles 20-13 in a key NACC match-up.

How it happened
- AU was forced to punt on their opening drive and BU answered with a touchdown to lead 7-0.
- The Spartans responded with a 17-play 70 yard drive but on fourth and four inside the BU 10 was stopped on a three-yard gain.
- On the first drive of the second quarter the Spartans got on the board.
- AU special teams took advantage of a bad snap on a punt to give the offense the ball deep in BU territory.
- Four plays later, Josh Swanson found Tyler Duncan in the end zone from nine yards out. The PAT was missed and AU trailed 7-6.
- On the next four possessions, the teams traded turnovers.
- BU added a field goal as time expired to lead 10-6 going to halftime.
- Another BU field goal on the opening drive of the third put the Eagles ahead 13-6.
- AU would march down field on their ensuing possessions, seven plays with six runs and a 23-yard score from Swanson to Cam Moore and AU was down 13-12 after a missed pat.
- The score remained 13-12 heading to the fourth.
- Midway through the fourth, the Spartans went back to work on offense. 10 carries for 64 yards set-up a third and goal from the BU 6. Swanson found Trey Madsen for the go ahead score.
- Jhey'Quay Chretin willed his way into the endzone on the two-point attempt and AU led 20-13.
- The defense stopped BU on a fourth down play with Jared Pratt making a stop on the Eagle quarterback at the original line of scrimmage.
- The Spartan offense ran out the final 2:56 ending in the Victory formation on the Lisle turf.
- AU was victorious 20-13.
