The Aurora University men's hockey team traveled east over the Thanksgiving holiday to take part in the 2022 FirstLight Shootout. AU fell in the matchup of ranked teams, losing to #9 Norwich 4-2.

 - AU took a penalty late in the first and Norwich capitalized to go ahead 1-0.
- The Spartans tied the game 4:49 into the second period.
- Hassan Akl scored with assists from
Matt Weber and Jacob Brockman.
- Norwich scored twice in the final six minutes of the second, one being on the power play to go ahead 3-1.
- 44 seconds into the third, AU went to a power play and just six seconds in the Spartans lit the lamp.

Derrick Budz won the draw and after the puck found Hassan Akl and Juliano Santalucia, Budz had the puck off his stick and into the net.
- AU trailed 3-2 early in the third.
- The game remained a one goal game late in the third and with 55 seconds to go, AU went to an extra skater when
Tanner Marshall went to the bench.Â
- Norwich managed to score with the net empty with three seconds left in the game.
- AU fell to Norwich 4-2.
