Spartans sweep Saturday doubleheader with MSOE

The Aurora University baseball team hosted Milwaukee School of Engineering Saturday afternoon ate Jim Schmid field in Montgomery, Illinois. The Spartans swept the conference doubleheader, winning game one 3-1 and game two 12-2 (8 inn.)

How it happened
GAME ONE

- Both pitchers kept the opposing offenses off balance through the first half of the game. Spartan Jack Fisher was dealing only allowing two hits in six innings.
- The Spartans got the scoring started in the bottom of the sixth. 
- Jacob Ambuel led off the inning with a single. With two outs and Ambuel on first, Jett Wekekind singled to center field to keep the inning alive.
- Dylan White would step up to the plate and hit an RBI single to score Ambuel and the Spartans led 1-0.
- The Raiders tied the game in the top of the eighth with a solo home run.
- Anthony Touhy would come in the eighth for the Spartans to shut the Raiders offense down.
- The Spartans answered right back with a two out solo home run from Jett Wedekind. 
- The two out rally continued with Dylan White's triple to right center. After a pitching change was made by MSOE, Justin Sartori would drive in Dylan White on a single to center field and AU led 3-1.
- Seth Gutknecht came in the top of the ninth to get the save for the Spartans, his first of the season.

How it happened
GAME TWO
- The Raiders got out to an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame on two hits and a Spartan error.
-The Spartans were able to tie the game up in the bottom half when Dylan White scored on a wild pitch.
- In the bottom of the third, the Spartans would take a 4-1 lead with Justin Sartori's three-run bomb to center field.
- MSOE would cut their deficit in half, scoring one in the top of the fourth.
- The Spartans answered back with a three-run home run from Jett Wedekind and AU led 7-2. 
- Spartan Collin Meinert led off the fifth inning with a walk and would later score on a Jack Seefeldt grounder to short.
- Nick Malmberg shut the Raiders offense down, only allowing seven hits in seven innings while striking out nine.
- The Spartans added two in the bottom of the seventh when Nick Baldassano laid a bunt down to score Nico Bermeo. Corey Vondra would follow with an RBI single to score Sean Rivera, 10-2 Spartans.
- MSOE threatened in the eighth, but Spartan Tyler Preissing would hold the Raiders to two runs.
- Nico Bermeo singled up the middle to score Meinert and Saratori to seal the 12-2 run rule victory.
