Spartans open NACC schedule with home loss

The Aurora University men's volleyball team hosted Northern Athletics Collgiate Conference foe Benedictine University on Tuesday night. The Spartans opened NACC play with a 3-1 loss to the visitors.

How it happened
- The Spartans and Eagles played a tight opening set with AU leading for the first-half.
- Adam Gebala led the way with four kills in the 25-21 set loss.
- AU led from the opening point and dominated action in the second set, winning 25-16.
- The Spartans hit .364 led by six kills from Mateo Sharosch and three each from James Karwin, John McCormack and Matthew Nelson.
- The third set saw the Spartans trail but stay within a few points of the lead the entire way but fell 25-20.
- Matthew Nelson had seven kills and hit .548 in the third set.
- Extra time was on tap for the fourth set as the teams went toe-to-toe.
- Unforced errors in the set kept the Spartans from victory as they fell 33-31.
- The Spartans hit .213 with 12 attack errors in the fourth set.
- Scharosch had eight kills while James Karwin hit .800 with four kills in five attempts from the setter position.
