Spartans split with Cougars on the road

The Aurora University softball team traveled to Concordia University Chicago for a conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon. The Spartans split the doubleheader losing game one 14-1 (5 inn.) and coming back to win game two 12-9.

How it happened
Game One 
- The Spartans fell behind 6-0 in the first inning on two errors and seven hits.
- AU got on the scoreboard in the top of the second when Alex Thiel scored on a fielder's choice from Jordan Seyfried.
- CUC added four runs in the bottom half to take a 10-1 lead.
- The Spartans could not get the offense going before the Cougars added three runs in the third inning and one in the fourth. 
- AU fell 14-1 in five innings.

How it happened
Game Two 
- The Spartans got the bats going in the opening frame. Jemma Fiehweg led off the inning with a single and later scored on an RBI single from Ashley Talaga to take a 1-0 lead.
- CUC responded in the bottom half tying the game 1-1 off three hits.
- AU answered back scoring five runs in the top of the second. With one out, Fiehweg hit a two run double to score Faith Biggs and Jordan Seyfried who both reached on back to back singles. 
- Fiehweg would score on a sac fly from Lexi Rayborn and Kionna King followed with a two run home run. The Spartans led 6-1 heading into the bottom of the second. 
- In the third, the Spartans had bases loaded and would be bring one across on a Chambers walk before Lexi Rayborn singled to left field to drive in Fiehweg and pitch runner Tatianna Jackson
- Ashley Talaga led off the fourth with a solo home run. With two outs, Jordan Seyfried drove in Delilah Aguirre and Seyfried later scored on a Cougar error. 
- The Cougars rallied in the bottom of the fifth scoring eight runs to make in a 12-9 ball game. 
- A Spartan double play in the sixth kept the Cougars from starting a rally and in the seventh Madelyn Buske was able to get three quick outs to end the game.
- AU was victorious 12-9.
