Spartans Take Down Marian On The Road

The Aurora University women's basketball team traveled to Marian University for a Saturday afternoon NACC showdown. The Spartans were able to fend off a late surge in the fourth quarter from the hosts and head back home with a 75-69 victory. Spartan Selena Vargas collected another double-double in the winning effort.

How it happened
- The duo of Macy Kocen and Selena Vargas scored the first nine points for the Spartans, who found themselves tied with the Sabres halfway through the first quarter.
- The score would remain tied 17-17 with each team trading baskets to end the frame.
- After trailing to start the second quarter, AU used a 10-0 run to gain a 31-23 lead with 2:40 left in the first half.
- The Spartans would take a 34-27 lead into the halftime break after outscoring the hosts 17-10 in the second frame.
- A balanced scoring attack in the first half saw AU's bench outscore the Sabres 11-0.
- AU held the hosts to just 19% shooting in the second, as Sam Barrett and Eliot Dojutrek each came up with two first half steals.
- A finish at the rim from Dojutrek capped off an 11-2 run to start the third quarter for AU, who took a 45-29 lead to start the second half.
- The Spartans took their largest lead of the game at the 2:15 mark of the third after a pair of free throws from Ava Barszcz. This gave AU a 59-42 lead.
- AU shot over 50% from the field in the third frame and went 10-12 from the charity stripe. 
- After seeing their lead fall to as low as  eight with about three minutes remaining, a three-pointer from Gabrielle Wolff would make it 74-63.
- The jumper from Wolff would help seal the deal for AU in a 75-69 victory.
- Dojutrek led the Spartan offense with 18 points, while Wolff added 17.
- Vargas finished with another double-double at 12 points and 12 rebounds.
