Spartans defeat BU on way to clinch NACC title

The 2024 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title remains at Aurora University thanks to the Spartans 56-20 dominating victory over the visiting Eagles of Benedictine University. The Spartan defense collected their fourth touchdown of the season and third interception return for a touchdown from Quintarius Davis, this one a 45-yard catch and score. Prior to the contest the Spartans recognized the 2024 senior class on senior day.

How it happened
- The Spartans won the toss and deferred to the second-half.
- On the fifth play of the BU drive, Quintarius Davis stepped in front of a pass and quickly dashed 41 yards to the end-zone.
- The pick six is his third of the season and was his fifth interception of the season.
- Following the Cooper WInslow point after, AU led 7-0.
- The AU defense forced BU to punt on the next two drives with the first AU offensive possession ending with an interception.
- The Spartan offense responded on their second possession with a balanced attack while scoring in eight plays.
- Tyler Adkins connected with Trey Urwiler on a 10-yard scoring strike and AU now led 14-0.
- BU then went on a 10-play drive that they milked 6:59 off the clock before scoring to cut the AU lead to seven at 14-7.
- The teams then traded punts with Spartan Asher Hamby blocking the BU attempt to set up the offense at the BU 48.
- It took the Spartans six plays for Adkins to find Avron Carter on a five-yard touchdown and AU led 21-7.
- After the AU defense forced another punt the Spartans gained possession with 59 seconds remaining at their own 33.
- The Spartans marched down field in seven plays with the last play coming as time expired on a third and goal from the 12-yard line.
- Adkins found Carter for the second time on the day to send the Spartans to halftime leading 28-7.
- The Spartans and Eagles traded interceptions to start the second-half with AU's Davis collecting his second of the day and sixth of the year.
- AU would go ahead 35-7 with a nine-yard strike from Adkins to Ty Pruett.
- BU did answer with a scoring drive to cut the AU lead to 35-14.
- On the first play of the fourth quarter, Adkins found Zackery Russell out of the backfield. Russell out ran the Eagle defense, diving into the end zone on the 64-yard score.
- Early in the fourth, AU led 42-14.
- The Spartans continued to dominate play going on a 12-play 77-yard drive on their next possession that ran off 7:26 on the clock.
- Adkins found Robert Cooper all alone in the end zone on a jump pass with AU now leading 49-14.
- In a frenzy of scoring late in the game, Benedictine scored but missed the point after try for a 49-20 score.
- BU tried an on-side kick that did not make the 10-yard buffer to give the Spartans prime field position.
- Antonio Ramsey four times for 25-yards on the drive to cap off the scoring and the game with a 56-20 score.
