Spartans pickup easy win over Hamline

The Aurora University men's hockey team hit the ice on Friday afternoon for the first game of a two game weekend series against Halime University at Fox Valley Ice Arena. The #5 ranked Spartans put up eight goals in the contest, highlighted by two goal games each from Landry Schmuck and Chayce Schmidt.

The Basics
FINAL SCORE: #5 Aurora University 8, Hamline University 2
LOCATION: Fox Valley Ice Arena - Geneva, Illinois
RECORDS: #5 Aurora University 9-2-0 overall; Hamline University 3-7 overall

How it happened
- AU got their scoring barrage started with just over five minutes left in the first. Lukas Sedlacek and Jakson Kirk teamed up to find Chayce Schmidt for the Spartan goal.
- Scmidt's first goal of the game gave AU a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
- The Spartans struck just two minutes into the second frame. Landry Schmuck lit the lamp off assists from Jacob Brockman and Andrew Schultz.
- Scmidt didn't waste any time in finding the back of the net again, giving AU a 3-0 lead just 24 seconds after his first goal. This one was also at even strength with assists from Hassan Akl and Simon Diaz.
- AU headed to a power play at the 5:08 mark of the second and took less than a minute to take a 4-0 lead. Eddie Paulissian secured the power play goal for the Spartans off assists from Schmuck and Schmidt.
- Hamline scored their first goal of the game at 14:35 in the second to cut AU's lead to 4-1.
- That 4-1 lead would hold for the Spartans going into the final period of play.
- Chase Broda got in on the scoring fun early in the third period when he lit the lamp off a set-up from Jackson Hay. This made it 5-1 in favor of AU.
- Hay also assisted on the next Spartan goal at 6:05 in the third. After goalie JaCob Mucitelli played the puck and found Hay, Hay passed one to Brockman who maneuvered between two defenders for AU's sixth goal.
- Just over a minute later, the Spartans took a 7-1 advantage on another Scmidt goal. His second goal of the game was assisted by Mathis Bedard while AU was at even strength.
- The Spartans headed to a final power play with just under five minutes to go. Juliano Santalucia converted for AU to add one more to their total.
- Hamline added one more of their own late in the third, but it was not nearly enough in AU's 8-2 victory.
