Spartans third period rally falls short

The Aurora University women's hockey team hosted #5 ranked Gustavus Adolphus College for the first game of a two game weekend series at Fox Valley Ice Arena. After falling behind 4-0, AU stormed back with three goals of their own in the third period, but fell 5-3 in Friday afternoon's contest.

How it happened 
- Gustavus Adolphus got the scoring started 2:51 into the contest to hand AU an early 1-0 deficit.
- The guests scored one more with time expiring in the first as the Spartans fell behind 2-0.
- Gustavus Adolphus scored two more in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
- That 4-0 deficit would hold going into the second intermission for AU.
- Zoie Campbell totaled 14 saves in each of the first two periods for the Spartans.
- AU came out with more intensity right away in the third and secured a power play just over two minutes into the frame.
- The Spartans got on the board about a minute into their 5 v 4 advantage. Courtney Docktor found Jillian Bilsborough as AU trailed 4-1.
- Ellie Visser secured another power play goal for the Spartans at 7:17 mark in the third. Zara Post and Cara Cook teamed up to assist Visser on AU's second power play goal of the game.
- AU answered back after another Gustavus goal with one of their own at the 13:51 point in the third. Liza Davies lit the lamp this time, with Samira Schmidt and Emiliana Cassillo getting credited with the assists to make it 5-3.
- The Spartans would end up falling by this 5-3 score.
