Henkel named All-Tournament as Spartans split day two of Coleman Classic

The Aurora University women's volleyball team opened the returned to the court for day two of the 2024 Jim Coleman Memorial Classic. The Spartans started the day with a 3-2 victory over #23 Cornell College before dropping the final match of the weekend classic to #21 Wisconsin Stevens Point 3-0. Spartan Erin Henkel was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance over four matches this weekend.

How it happened
MATCH ONE:
- The first set saw eight tie scores and four lead changes as the Spartans and Rams battled throughout. AU would drop the first 26-24.
- AU would hold a lead for almost the entire second set and held on to win 25-23.
- Seven Spartans knocked down kills while Hannah Joseph handed out nine assists.
- A late run by Cornell led to a 25-19 third set loss and AU trailed the match 2-1.
- In the fourth set, AU trailed 1-0 and would never trail again with the set seeing the score tied nine times.
- AU closed out the set on a 6-1 run with a pair of kills from Erin Henkel fueling the AU offense.
- The Spartans hit a strong .343 in the fourth set.
- In the deciding fifth set, the score was tied 5-5 when the Spartans took advantage of some Ram errors and three kills from Addyson Timpane to win 15-8 and the match 3-2.

MATCH TWO
- The first set was back and forth early until a 5-0 UWSP run put the visitors in front and they went on to win 25-19.
- Lulu Torres and Henkel had strong hitting in the first set but it wasn't enough to overcome the Pointers.
- AU fell in the second set 25-16 and trailed the match 2-0.
- The Spartans led the third set 17-15 but saw the lead disipate and fell 25-22 to fall in the match 3-0.
