Spartans drop two at Marty Petersen Invitational

The Aurora University women's volleyball team hit the court for the first time in a week when they traveled up to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the Marty Petersen Invitational on Saturday afternoon. AU took on St. Catherine University and lost 3-0, before taking one set in a 3-1 loss against #5 ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

How it happened
MATCH ONE:
- AU got out to an early 7-3 lead in their first set of the day as Lulu Torres notched the first five Spartan points.
- AU regained that lead later at 14-13 in a back-and-forth first set.
- Addyson Timpane notched a kill later in the set to keep the Spartans within one at 24-23, but St. Catherine scored the last point to win the first set.
- The Spartans took a 7-6 second set lead after Kate Poellmann hammered her second kill of the set.
- After falling behind 12-10, AU rattled off four straight points for a 14-12 advantage. 
- AU would wind up losing 25-19 in the second set.
- Like the first two sets, the Spartans got out to an early lead thanks to a 3-0 scoring run that made it 5-2.
- A couple of kills from Rosie Karl allowed AU to re-take that lead later in the set at 10-9. 
- A 4-0 run late in the third set gave the Spartans a 23-21 lead.
- AU would lose the third set 28-26 and the match 3-0.
- Lilly Vance led the AU offensive attack with 12 kills in the match.

MATCH TWO
- An early 4-0 scoring run in the first set gave AU an early 7-3 lead against the #5 ranked Titans.
- Another 3-0 run later in the set highlighted by Riley Moreno and Torres kills put the Spartans up 18-14.
- AU saw a 24-23 deficit in the first set, but Torres and Moreno once again came up big for AU for a 25-24 lead.
- The Spartans would prevail for a 27-25 first set victory.
- Hannah Joseph picked up an ace to give AU an 8-7 lead in a back-and-forth second set.
- AU would not see another lead the rest of the set after their 9-8 advantage and fell 25-18 that tied the match at one.
- The Spartans would fall in the second set by a score of 25-13.'
- Back-to-back kills from Timpane gave AU a 4-3 lead in a more competitive fourth set.
- Erin Henkel hammered one home later in the set to tie the score at nine.
- AU would trail the entire rest of the last set to lose 25-16 and the match 3-1.
