Spartans dance with Prairire Fire in home opener

The Aurora University women's basketball team hosted the Prairie Fire of Knox College in the home opener in Thornton Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Spartans gave the home crowd a lot of excitement in defeating Knox 89-65.

How it happened
- The Spartans started slowly, trailing 4-0 and then 9-4 at the media timeout.
- AU closed out the period on a 12-4 run and led 18-15 after one.
- Dani Antoine had eight points in the first quarter.
- Midway through the second AU had their largest lead so far at 10 (35-25) on an Antoine three.
- Knox chipped away and tied the game 37-37 with 2:29 left in the first-half.
- AU never trailed though and went to halftime ahead 44-43.
- After Knox tied the game 46-46 on a three early in the third, the Spartans started to pull away.
- A 9-1 run was capped off on a Kylie Fischbach basket just ahead of the media timeout.
- Jennifer Heinberg scored the final five points of the third to extend the Spartan lead to 12 at 63-51.
- AU turned up the defense and the running game in the fourth and pushed their lead to 26 on a Elizabeth Griswold basket.
- The Spartans would defeat Knox 89-65.
