Schmuck Sends Spartans To Sweep Over Trine

The Aurora University men's hockey team hosted Trine University for the second-straight day, with the #3 ranked Spartans looking to sweep the #4 ranked Thunder. With each side knotted at three near the middle of the third period, Landry Schmuck sniped one on the power play from inside the circle for the game winner and his second goal, giving the Spartans the 4-3 victory. This now marks the eighth-straight victory for AU as their schedule turns over to February.

How it happened
 - AU didn't waste much time at all getting on the board, as Jakson Kirk found the back of the net just 3:23 into the contest.
- Kirk was assisted by Juliano Santalucia and Lukas Sedlacek to give the Spartans the early 1-0 lead.
- About eight minutes later at the 11:34 point of the opening period, Hassan Akl and Jacob Brockman teamed up to find Landry Schmuck for another AU goal.
- This allowed the Spartans to take a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
- About halfway through the second period, AU struck again for another even strength goal to gain a 3-0 lead.
- Brockman was on the scoring end this time, Chacye Schmidt and Riley Dekowny picked up the assists.
- Trine would score a power play goal at with six minutes left in the second to trim AU's lead to 3-1.
- The guests added one more at 15:42 in the third, giving the Spartans a 3-2 lead heading into the second intermission.
- The score would become tied at 3 after Trine scored a power play goal just over a minute into the final period.
- AU headed to ther power play at 6:36 in the third and struck at exactly the 7:00 mark when Schmuck sniped one in from inside the circle.
- This would be the eventual game winning goal for the Spartans, who took the victory by a score of 4-3.
