Spartans extend unbeaten streak to nine with shootout win

The Aurora University men's hockey team remained unbeaten in 2025 and in nine consecutive games with a 3-3 overtime tie that AU would win the shootout 2-1 at Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday night. Braedyn McIntosh made 50 saves in the contest to help the Spartans secure two more NCHA points.

How it happened
 - AU was out-shot 15-6 in the first period but goalie Braedyn McIntosh rose to the challenge, stopping all 15 shots sent his way.
- With 2:37 remaining in the first period, AU and Landry Schmuck lit the lamp. Schmuck's Division III leading 25th of the season gave AU the 1-0 lead.
- Hassan Akl and Jacob Brockman assisted on the play with Akl collecting his Division III leading 29th assist and 40th point.
- Early in the second and less than a minute after coming off a power play, the Spartans struck again.
- Mathis Bedard found the back of the MSOE net with assists from Jakson Kirk and Juliano Santalucia.
- After MSOE scored a paif of goals to tie the contest, the Spartans weren't finished in the period.
- With 3:30 left, Matt Weber put AU ahead again with an assist from Jake Code.
- AU would carry the 3-2 lead into the third period.
- 3:46 into the third MSOE scored to tie the contest.
- The game remained 3-3 as the contest went into a 3v3 five minute overtime.
- McIntosh stopped the three shots sent his way in overtime as AU and MSOE headed to the shootout.
- In the shootout, Kirk scored the second of two AU goals (Akl with the first) while McIntosh stopped three of four including the final shot of the game for the shootout win 2-1.
